Small But Disorganized 2012-12-28T03:05:59+00:00 http://SmallButDisorganized.com Sean McCune Copyright (c) 2012 Sean McCune What Is Christmas? 2012-12-25T20:00:00+00:00 http://SmallButDisorganized.com/2012/12/25/What-Is-Christmas/ I don't normally write this kind of stuff... not this bluntly... not this... well... plainly. And I don't know why I chose to do it now. But the following are my thoughts on Christmas. I don't speak for my Church, for which She is probably rightfully very grateful. I don't possess the charism of infallibility. So I am probably missing the mark in some (many) areas. I didn't spend weeks or months crafting these words.... Behead All Those Who... 2012-09-16T00:39:00+00:00 http://SmallButDisorganized.com/2012/09/16/behead-all-those/ So there's a lot of these "Behead all those who insult the prophet/Islam" signs showing up again. Well, I gotta say that I'm a Catholic Christian. So obviously, I believe that my faith is true... because... why else would I believe it? It follows then that I don't believe Islam is true, because I don't believe in it, right? So to conclude: I'm a Christian not a Muslim. So I don't believe in Islam and... Me and the HHS Mandate 2012-08-02T00:10:00+00:00 http://SmallButDisorganized.com/2012/08/02/me-and-the-hhs-mandate/ So the HHS mandate took effect today for most businesses, forcing them to offer insurance plans that cover contraceptives and abortifacients. There are court cases firing up to challenge this mandate on the grounds that it infringes upon the freedom of religion. Already one injunction is protecting a family-run business run by Catholics from having to obey this mandate. May there be many more until the mandate is struck down. What about me? When I... The Mandate Kicks In 2012-08-01T17:06:00+00:00 http://SmallButDisorganized.com/2012/08/01/the-mandate-kicks-in/ An excellent article on the HHS mandate kicking in today by George Weigel over at the StopHHS.com site. The quote below is particularly spot on. Read the whole thing. More broadly, an array of commentators have seen in the HHS mandate a quintessential expression of the administration's disdain for the institutions of civil society, which it seems to regard as merely the vehicles for the delivery of "services" the government decides to provide, rather than... Chick-Fil-A Thoughtcrime 2012-08-01T14:30:00+00:00 http://SmallButDisorganized.com/2012/08/01/chick-fil-a/ [Update: Several folks have corrected me on Dan Cathy being Chick-Fil-A's President and COO, not the CEO as I originally wrote. Thanks to all who pointed this out to me. I have corrected the post.] So today I had lunch with some friends and former co-workers at Chick-Fil-A in Cranberry Township, PA. Today, if you don't know, has been dubbed "Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day". Its in response to various politicians such as Boston's and Chicago's Mayors... Happy Independence Day! 2012-07-04T14:30:00+00:00 http://SmallButDisorganized.com/2012/07/04/happy-independence-day/ On this Independence Day let me say that I do think this is a great country. But its not a perfect country. There's no such thing. Its impossible for us humans to create such a thing. But this is a great country founded on the greatest of ideals: individual liberty and the idea that we are endowed by our Creator with inalienable rights that even the government cannot infringe upon. These are human rights. Rights... Blogging With Jekyll 2012-06-30T17:10:00+00:00 http://SmallButDisorganized.com/2012/06/30/blogging-with-jekyll/ I have to say I'm finding it very easy to add functionality to the blog now that I've switched to jekyll. Jekyll generates static pages to implement your website rather than requiring a server-side database and code written in ruby, PHP or what have you. Since the web server doesn't have to run any code to generate your pages, it just serves up pre-built static files, its faster and puts less of a load on... Furlongs Per Fortnight 2012-06-30T05:45:00+00:00 http://SmallButDisorganized.com/2012/06/30/fortnight/ Back a couple of decades ago when I was a control systems engineer... (no, I'm serious, it was a couple of decades ago... and get off my lawn!) I was designing control systems for industrial processes. In the steel industry its common to measure and control the speed of a strip of steel in feet per minute in the US. Elsewhere, where they're all metrical 'n stuff, it was measured in meters per minute. We... Re-disorganized 2012-06-30T05:20:00+00:00 http://SmallButDisorganized.com/2012/06/30/redisorganized/ Once again I've decided to re-disorganize this blog in hopes it will spur me to post more often. Luckily, I've managed to do it a few days before the 4th of July and before the Fortnight 4 Freedom ends. But more about that in the next post. For this re-disorg, I've done away with wordpress. The new site is based on the Jekyll static site generator, markdown and git. I think this will give me...
